US transfers seized from Iran weapons to Ukraine The US Central Command (CENTCOM) disclosed the transfer of a substantial cache of seized weapons and ammunition to Ukraine last week.The transferred arsenal includes thousands of machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition, seized from Iran. Notably, the transferred materiel is sufficient to equip one Ukrainian brigade, consisting of approximately 4,000 personnel, with small-arms rifles. CENTCOM emphasized that these weapons will play a crucial role in enabling Ukraine to resist Russia's invasion.The origins of the munitions trace back to seizures by the US military and its allies from stateless vessels between May 22, 2021, and February 15, 2023. However, the US government only obtained ownership of the equipment through the Justice Department's civil forfeiture process in December of the previous year, according to CENTCOM.
